Software licenses

Every installation of Thoroughbred software needs its own license. Our license also lets business partners develop applications on Thoroughbred development products and pass them on to their customers. The full terms are in the Software License Agreement.

License protection and activation

Thoroughbred uses security-coded activation keys to protect against unlicensed use of our software, and you can use the same feature to protect your own applications.

Products ship with a 30-day temporary key, which gives you time to install and approve the software. When the temporary key expires, the software runs with limited capacity, so get a unique activation key from Thoroughbred before then. You can get one online at the product activation site, or by calling (800) 524-0430.

Value added reseller terms

As a value added reseller (VAR), you agree on a discount structure with Thoroughbred, and you get those discounts on your purchases of Thoroughbred software. There are no minimum purchase or volume commitments. To get started, apply to become a partner.

Software maintenance

The Annual Maintenance Program helps customers get the most from their Thoroughbred products. It provides:

  • Enhancement upgrades to new releases, with the new features added to each product. Thoroughbred typically issues one major enhancement release a year, provided to subscribers for a small shipping and handling charge.
  • Maintenance updates to current releases, a cumulative set of fixes to reported problems that have been field tested for stability. There are typically one or two update releases a year.

See support and maintenance programs for everything the program includes. For a complete program guide, call your Thoroughbred sales representative.

Trade-in policy

Thoroughbred offers a trade-in value against your currently installed products. The value depends on how long the software has been installed and is calculated as a percentage of the product’s current list price at the time of trade-in, from 90% for products installed up to six months down to no trade-in value after five years. Your Thoroughbred sales representative can give you the value for your products. The same policy is available to customers moving to Thoroughbred from another Business BASIC environment, such as BBX or MAI.

Calculate the trade-in price with this formula:

Trade-In Price = (New Product List Price − (Current Product List Price × Trade-In Value%)) × (100 − Discount%)

To trade in software, you need the serial numbers of the currently installed version. Trade-ins are only valid when you move to the same or a greater number of tasks. Products covered by the Annual Maintenance Program get a guaranteed 90% trade-in value for environment, user-level and operating system upgrades. Contact your Thoroughbred sales representative for details.

How to order

Gather the information below before you place an order, which helps us process it quickly. Also tell your Thoroughbred sales representative your payment method, ship-to address and anything else relevant to the order.

Choose the operating system and hardware platform

Thoroughbred products are continually ported to and tested with the latest operating systems that hardware manufacturers ship. Occasionally, the most recent version of Thoroughbred may not work with a particular operating system version.

To choose the right platform, identify the CPU and the version of the manufacturer’s operating system. You’ll find this on the label of your operating system’s installation media, or on UNIX and Linux by running uname -a at the system prompt. For more information, see your operating system manual or type man uname.

Choose the number of tasks

Decide how many tasks your installation needs, and check the price schedule for your platform to see that product’s task boundaries.

Choose the latest version

To take advantage of the latest features, order the current release, 8.9.1, and stay at Thoroughbred’s current release level whenever you can.

Delivery

All Thoroughbred products are delivered through our download center.

Payment and returns

Payment terms, returns, media replacement and warranty are covered in the terms and conditions of sale.
