Script-IV is Thoroughbred’s fourth-generation programming language. Its structured, concise, English-like commands read clearly enough that code-level documentation is rarely needed.
What it does
Script-IV is included in the Dictionary-IV and OPENworkshop product sets. It gives developers direct access to the database and the system dictionary, and it takes care of many of the housekeeping tasks that come with 3GL programming.
- Editing and quick-compile facilities
- Debugging features
- Error messages that make the environment responsive and encourage incremental development
- Access to any Dictionary-IV definition
The strength of Script-IV is that it can control fine detail while still working at every level of programming.
Working with Thoroughbred Basic
Script-IV works directly with Thoroughbred Basic. Teams that develop in Basic can move to Script-IV gradually or mix the two in the same application. In OPENworkshop, Methods can be written in either language.
How it fits
Script-IV is the procedural language of IDOL-IV and one of the two Method languages in OPENworkshop. Script-IV code can run Report-IV reports with CONNECT REPORT and pass values to them with FORMAT INCLUDE.
