TS DataServer for Oracle lets any Thoroughbred Dictionary-IV based application read and write Oracle database tables directly, either locally or across a network. Vertical applications written in a Thoroughbred Environment can work with a corporate Oracle database, or use Oracle as their primary data server.

How it works

The Oracle table structure is a defined file type in the Dictionary-IV Link definition. Dictionary-IV links to the Oracle table definitions, and from then on the application runs against Oracle as it would against Thoroughbred files. Thanks to Dictionary-IV’s three-tier design, applications do not need to be written specifically for Oracle.

  • Automatic setup. TS DataServer for Oracle creates the Oracle table from the Dictionary-IV Link and Format information.
  • Local or remote servers. The Oracle database can be on the same machine or elsewhere on the network, with no limits on its configuration.
  • Native interface. Thoroughbred uses the Oracle Call Interface (OCI) for performance and configuration flexibility.

Existing applications and Solution-IV

Existing applications that use Dictionary-IV can be recompiled automatically once the Link definition is set to the Oracle database type. The Solution-IV financial and distribution suite can be set up to run on Oracle at installation, and existing Solution-IV installations can be switched to Oracle at any time.

Platforms

TS DataServer for Oracle supports UNIX, Linux and Windows, from workgroup servers to enterprise Oracle systems on UNIX and Linux. The client side is part of every TS Environment installation.
