TS DataServer for MySQL lets any Thoroughbred Dictionary-IV based application read and write MySQL database tables. Thoroughbred applications can connect directly to MySQL or use it as their primary data server, from single host systems to enterprise-wide environments.

How it works

The MySQL table structure is a defined file type in the Dictionary-IV Link definition. Dictionary-IV links to the MySQL table definitions, and from then on the application runs against MySQL as it would against Thoroughbred files. Applications do not need to be written specifically for MySQL.

  • Automatic setup. The DataServer creates the MySQL table from the Dictionary-IV Link and Format information.
  • Local or remote servers. The MySQL database can be local or remote, with no limits on its configuration.
  • MySQL only from 8.9.1. Starting with release 8.9.1, MariaDB has its own TS DataServer for MariaDB.

Existing applications and Solution-IV

Existing applications that use Dictionary-IV can be recompiled automatically once the Link definition is set to the MySQL database type, and then run on MySQL. This includes the Solution-IV financial and distribution suite.

Write to both databases at once

With the DataSafeGuard Playback facility and the DataSafeGuard to MySQL interface, data from Thoroughbred applications can be written to the native Thoroughbred database and to MySQL at the same time, without changing existing code. See Real-Time Database Solutions.

How it fits

Thoroughbred offers matching DataServers for MariaDB, Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server. The client side is part of every TS Environment installation.
