Query-IV is part of Thoroughbred’s family of tools for retrieving data. It is designed for people who are not programmers but want quick, thorough access to their data.
How it works
Users build a query through a point-and-click selection process with step-by-step menus, or type SQL-style commands directly. Select, Group and Sort functions control the content and format of the result. No programming or coding is needed.
Industry-standard SQL
Query-IV turns the user’s selections into SQL statements and runs them. The point-and-click interface keeps the choice of functions deliberately simple. Expert users can go further by editing the generated SQL.
Save and reuse
Queries can be stored and run again later. They can also be transferred automatically to Report-IV format, so you can prototype in Query-IV and move to Report-IV when you need its extra flexibility.
Dictionary-IV data
Query-IV runs with Dictionary-IV, which defines the type and location of each data item. A single query can combine data from multiple files, file structures, file systems and operating systems, including applications spread across networked machines.
Output
Query-IV output can go to Gateway for Windows for processing in workstation applications, or to TS ReportServer for viewing and printing on a Windows workstation. Query-IV is included with OPENworkshop and IDOL-IV.
