Gateway for Windows lets any Thoroughbred Environment application communicate with PC-based applications running under Microsoft Windows. Developers can build applications that take advantage of spreadsheets, word processors, document imaging and other workstation software, and move processor-intensive work off the host and onto PC workstations.

What you can do

  • Charts and graphs. Your program sends data to Gateway for Windows, which starts the Windows application automatically and has it respond to your program’s control.
  • Graphics and images. Download just the data you want to show or print, then display or print grids, halftones, scanned images and other graphics without overloading the host.
  • Further processing. Output from Query-IV and Report-IV can be passed to workstation applications.

How it works

All communication with the PC workstation goes through a standard public program, GWWCOM. You write Script-IV methods or Thoroughbred Basic programs that call GWWCOM. At the workstation, the Gateway for Windows APIs receive the information, start the right Windows application and tell it how to process the data.

Gateway for Windows can communicate with any Windows application. With applications that support Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE), communication is two-way. With applications that do not, it is one-way, from the host to the workstation.

Solution-IV integration

Solution-IV is integrated with Gateway for Windows, and a Microsoft Office library is available. For example, the Solution-IV Executive Summary can show monthly and daily sales totals graphically in a spreadsheet. Invoice lookups can include images of the actual documents, payroll records can include employee photos and tax forms, and inventory records can include item images.

How it fits

Gateway for Windows is included with the VIP products and works with TS ReportServer.
