VIP for Dictionary-IV is the graphical presentation layer of Thoroughbred’s three-tier architecture. Any application built on Dictionary-IV objects can run with a Windows graphical interface using its existing program code. VIP uses Windows PCs as workstations and is invisible to the application code and design.

Graphical or character, your choice

VIP lets Dictionary-IV applications run with either a graphical or a character presentation, without changing the application. Power users can run all their applications with the same Windows look and feel, while production staff keep the speed and simplicity of character-based data entry.

What users see

VIP turns Dictionary-IV Menus, Screens, Views, Help and System Messages into graphical objects that use standard Windows controls. Users can click a field or cell, open a matrix menu to drill down into detail, or pick an icon or button to run a report or exit.

What’s included

  • VIP graphical interface
  • TbredComm, Thoroughbred’s terminal emulator, for local, remote and internet connections
  • WorkStation Manager, for setting up each workstation: character or GUI presentation, local or remote host, Windows Start menu entries, toolbar setup and position, default fonts and colors, autologon and internet server access. Its graphic screen designer and screen templates let you tailor the look of your applications.
  • TS ReportServer, for viewing, saving and printing reports at the workstation
  • Gateway for Windows, for exchanging data with Windows applications

Compatibility

VIP works with any Dictionary-IV based application developed in OPENworkshop or the Thoroughbred Basic environment, on any operating system Thoroughbred supports. Many Thoroughbred-based vertical applications, including Solution-IV, support VIP.

Now in the browser

Web OpenWorkshop shows the same Dictionary-IV screens, views and menus in Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari, with nothing to install on the workstation. Browser users and VIP users can work side by side on the same application.
