Thoroughbred 8.9.1 release notes

Version 8.9.1 is a maintenance release based on comments and suggestions we have received from the Thoroughbred community, both through the Thoroughbred mail-list forum and our support department. You can also download these release notes as a PDF.

Some highlights are:

  • Introducing TSWebTerm, the new Thoroughbred Web Terminal, which replaces T-Connect.
  • Introducing TS DataServer for MariaDB. TS DataServer for MySQL has been forked into two products.
  • Ghost security: the number of ghost processes is now limited to the user count of the product. The number of ghosts can be changed with a ghost activation program or the -g option of the product’s install program.
  • Support for OpenSSL 3.4 (Record Encryption 3.4), OpenSSL 3.5 (Record Encryption 3.5), OpenSSL 3.6 (Record Encryption 3.6) and OpenSSL 4.0 (Record Encryption 4.0).
  • Security updates.
  • Improved memory allocation.
  • Code optimization for GCC 14 and 15.

When installing TbredComm or VIP, select the appropriate setup program:

  • Setup_Tbcomm_11plus.exe installs TbredComm on Windows 10, Windows 11, Windows Server 2016, Windows Server 2019, Windows Server 2022 and Windows Server 2025.
  • Setup_VIP_11plus.exe installs VIP on Windows 10, Windows 11, Windows Server 2016, Windows Server 2019, Windows Server 2022 and Windows Server 2025.

These setups first check whether any Microsoft prerequisites are needed on the target system. If they are, you will be prompted to install them; this is required. When this phase is complete, the TbredComm or VIP installation runs automatically.

There is only one install package for TS Environment for Windows, and one for TS Network Basic with DataServer. Neither is platform dependent.

Refer to the appropriate 8.9.1 manual for detailed installation instructions. The installation instructions have not changed since 8.9.0. All the manuals are in the documentation.

When reporting problems, include the file version and the enhancement or problem reference number where applicable.

To see the Basic’s file version, type DUMP VERSION in Basic console mode and press Enter:

Open the Tsi\Bin folder and hover the mouse over an executable to see its full file version, or right-click the executable, select Properties and then the Version tab.
